Activity: Geographer Scavenger Hunt Game
Materials: Geographer Scavenger Hunt Game Level 1 or 2, altas listed above

Procedure:
There are two different atlases recommended here and two different scavenger hunt worksheets attached. If the student is new to reading maps or is younger, choose the Level I scavenger hunt and the NYSTROM Map Champ Atlas. For a student who is a little older or has already had some map reading experience, choose the Level 2 scavenger hunt and the NYSTROM Junior Geographer Atlas.

1. Begin by looking through the atlas together. Take time to talk about what the student knows about maps or different parts of the world. Find out how much experience she has with using a key, understanding map directions or interpreting map information. Ask questions throughout the process to be sure that the student understands. This activity is meant to be an introduction or a chance for the student to feel comfortable with maps and map vocabulary.
2. When you are finished reading the book, have the student orally answer the questions to the scavenger hunt. Assist as necessary. This is meant to be a teaching tool and a chance to find out what the student knows.
Choose a vocabulary activity to reinforce meaning.
